Finding Our Voice

Celebrating Australia in sound, Finding Our Voice is a project that is an innovative approach to the music festival - commissioning, presenting and promoting live performances of eight new musical works across Australia.   And, with its digital manifestation it creates a treasure trove of premium film footage of the live events, plus educational resources, and interviews, all illuminating the artists’ stories, creative processes, their diverse voices, and approaches.

The entire digital legacy is on the Finding Our Voice website.

Arts & Parts’ founder Martel Ollerenshaw is co-executive producer of Finding Our Voice, and we are so pleased to have delivered it alongside a team of amazing colleagues and collaborators including: Genevieve Lacey (artistic director, co-executive producer), Paul Mason (co-executive producer), Deborah May (filmmaker), Jakub Gaudasinski (audio), James Humberstone, Jessica Lee, Lillian Li and Vicky Zhang (education), Rosie Pentreath (communications), New Opening Studio (visual identity and website), Margaret Barrett & Katie Zhukov (evaluation), Morwenna Collett (accessibility consultant), Jude Gun & Fraser Orford (producers), and many others.

We have delivered live presentations by some of Australia’s most imaginative composers, including Nightfalls by Mark Atkins & Erkki Veltheim (22 October 2022 at UKARIA, SA), Connection by William Barton (27 November 2022 at Sydney Opera House, as part of the Unwrapped Season, NSW), DarkQuiet by sound artists Madeleine Flynn, Tim Humphrey, lighting designer Jenny Hector and producer Erin Milne (21 December 2022 at Bundanon, NSW), MotherTongue MotherLand by Sunny Kim (12 February 2023 at Sydney Opera House, NSW), Ephemeral Echoes by Linda May Han Oh (5 March 2023 at Perth Concert Hall as part of Perth Festival, WA), Ngapa William Cooper by Lior, Lou Bennett & Nigel Westlake (5 & 7 March 2023 as part of Adelaide Festival, SA), Tethering by Matthias Schack-Arnott (13 - 15 April 2023 at The Substation, VIC), and arcing, stilling, bending, gathering by Lisa Illean performed by pianist Aura Go, musicians from ANAM lead by Emma McGrath, with sound artist Tilman Robinson (21 April 2023 at Melbourne Recital Centre, VIC).
