Jan Bang

“…fragile-sounding melodies, introspective lyrics, voices singing from some private sphere, gauzy textures shaped and layered with great care, on the edge of decay…elegant and reflective.” (The Blue Moment)

Musician, composer and record producer Jan Bang is known for collaborations with Sidsel Endresen, David Sylvian, Jon Hassell, Tigran Hamasyan, Nils Petter Molvær, Eivind Aarset, Arve Henriksen and Erik Honoré – with whom he co-founded Punkt Festival (Kristiansand, Norway) in 2005.

An accomplished and influential record producer, live performer, and remixer Jan Bang is a musical innovator and bridge-builder, consistently balancing progressive thinking and popular appeal. Always looking for ways to move music and people forward, and to create new meeting places and musical intersections, he has nurtured the next generation of creative musicians via a professorship in electronic music at the University of Agder (Norway).

Projects in repertoire include: Reading the Air (released on Punkt Editions, 2024), After the Wildfire (an orchestral work co-composed by Arve Henriksen and commissioned by Skopje Jazz Festival, 2023), The Bow Maker (a collaboration with Dai Fujikura, 2022), Through A Looking Glass (an online collaboration with Michiyo Yagi commissioned by Issue Project Room, 2022), With These Hands (a commission from Ensemble Modern, 2020 - 2022), Tolerance & Chemistry (a collaboration with Audun Kleive, ongoing), and Snow Catches On Her Eyelashes (a collaboration with Eivind Aarset, ongoing).
