Jazz South
Responding to a competitive process to undertake an audit of the sector in the region, Arts & Parts delivered the results of the research in 2019.
An initiative to help support the development of jazz musicians, promoters and educational opportunities across a region, Jazz South embraces all of South East and South West England – from Kent to Cornwall to Oxfordshire. Led and hosted by Turner Sims, Southampton, and underpinned by funding from Arts Council England, Jazz South is a programme that provides a range of new opportunities in the region including touring, commissions, masterclasses, residentials and networking events.
‘Jazz South awarded Arts & Parts the tender to carry out a Jazz South Audit – the first comprehensive survey of the jazz sector across the large southern region of England outside of London, spanning Cornwall to Kent, Oxford to the Isle of Wight. Martel Ollerenshaw brought together a skilled team with specific knowledge and experience of the jazz and improvised music sector in the UK and beyond. This resulted in a report completed by a wide-range of stakeholders, that delivered tangible information relevant to the sector, and offered a set of recommendations drawing on the nuance of the responses whilst also reflecting the broader context of national and international jazz industries.’
