Sound Out
Sound Out is a professional development, mentoring and presentation platform for adventurous musicians who challenge normal categorisation. In 2019-2021, the pilot edition of Sound Out involved European and Australian partners (including funding bodies and presenting partners form Switzerland, Poland, Scotland, Australia and The Netherlands) and was designed to enable ambitious creative musicians (composer/performer/devisors) working in jazz, electronica, improvised and art music, to: exercise their imaginations to plan new projects, explore the sector, establish working relationships with other artists and international producers, programmers and presenters of live music, and to present that work in international contexts.
The musicians in the inaugural edition of Sound Out (Sokołowsko: 2019-2021) are leaders in their respective genres, capable of conceiving larger-scale projects including works that are interdisciplinary or do not conform to any genre. They are: Aviva Endean (clarinet, Australia), Benedikt Wieland (bass & electronics, Switzerland), Inge Thomson (vocals & accordion, Scotland), Joanna Duda (piano & electronics, Poland), Lucia Cadotsch (vocals, Switzerland), Morris Kliphuis (horn, Netherlands), Ramon Landolt (keyboards & synths, Switzerland) and Resina (alias of Karolina Rec, vocals, cello & electronics, Poland).
Sound Out (Sokołowsko) was possible because of the generosity of the contributing partners: Pro Helvetia (Switzerland), Buma Cultuur and inJazz (The Netherlands), Australian Art Orchestra, Ian Potter Foundation, Australia Council for the Arts, Creative Victoria, Australian Music Centre (Australia), Jazz from Scotland and Creative Scotland (Scotland), the National Forum of Music and Jazztopad (Poland), and was organised in co-operation with the Adam Mickiewicz Institute as part of POLSKA 100, the international cultural programme accompanying the centenary of Poland regaining independence. Financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland as part of the multi-annual programme NIEPODLEGŁA 2017–2022.
Sound Out is an initiative of the Europe Jazz Network under the Artistic Exchange Platform, and is planning more editions for 2024 and beyond.
