John Cumming

Time for one more?
Celebrating John Cumming

Prior to starting Arts & Parts, our founder Martel Ollerenshaw worked with John Cumming and his company Serious, the producers of the EFG London Jazz Festival. Sadly, John passed away in May 2020, and after waiting over two years to pay tribute in public to John and his far-reaching legacy, we were pleased to work with the Barbican on Time for One More?

John’s family wanted the event — on Saturday 16 July 2022 at the Barbican in London — to be a celebration, and a stunning line-up of UK and international artists working in jazz and improvised music, was assembled to create this celebration of the music which surrounded John's life and had been shaped by his impact.

It was a rare occasion to see all of these artists performing on the same stage; including Sebastian Rochford, Shabaka Hutchings, Gwilym Simcock, Elina Duni & Rob Luft, Matthew Bourne, Gary Crosby’s Tomorrow’s Warriors, Ayanna Witter-Johnson, Andy Sheppard, Nik Bärtsch, Maciej Obara, Guy Barker, John Surman, Yazz Ahmed, Black Top, Alice Zawadzki, Nikki Yeoh, Dave Okumu, Evan Parker & Spring Heel Jack, Joanna MacGregor, Jason Yarde, Alexander Hawkins, and many more.
